Confederation of Targowica
The April 24th 1792, of large Tycoon S Polish (Branicki, Rzewuski, Kossakowski…) go to Saint-Pétersbourg to sign the act of Confédération of Targowica . Then, the May 14th 1792, they claim “in the name of the nation” a help of the Russia to put an end to the rebellion which “threatens safety of the State”. Thus they present their request like an intervention at the request of the Polish nation, and the Russian army enters in Poland.
The July 24th 1792, the Council of State declares that the king is obliged to sign the agreement of confederation of Targowica. It is at this time that good number of dignitaries give their resignation and emigrate.
The Russian troops enter to Poland and confederated try to destroy the governmental system, which plunges the country in chaos. Towards the end of the winter 1792, the Prussian decide to occupy the north of Poland. The confederation of Targowica was quickly compromised at the same time with the eyes of the nation and those of its invaders, in particular because of the many attempts at resistance.
It lost raison d'être thus, while having been the element release of the second division of Poland.
