Confœderatio helvetica
Latin official name of the Swiss . Its abbreviation ( CH ) constitutes the code ISO for Switzerland (see standard ISO 3166-1, alpha-2). Name Confœderatio helvetica is found in particular on the coins, the frontage of the federal Palais or in the heading of the Official site of the Confederation. Since Switzerland counts four national languages (German, French, Italian and Romanche), the use of Latin circumvents the problem of the arbitrary choice of a language for certain official terms.
French official name is Confédération Swiss , and thus the Swiss use of Confédération is to be avoided.
