Concressault

Concressault is a common French, located in the department of the Cher and the area Center.

Geography

is accessible, in the North-West, by the secondary road 8 and, in south-east, by the secondary road 11.

History

Concressault having been surrounded of Ramparts in the Middle Ages, the locality had the statute of " ville".

In its handwritten work on the Berry, Nicolas de Nicolay left us a description of the castle-extremely of Concressault such as it presented in 1567. According to this author, the primitive Forteresse of Concressault was ruined by the English during the Guerre One hundred year old. Shortly after its destruction, the duke Jean de Berry (1340 - 1416) rebuilt it more firmly than it was not before. The rebuilt castle was of hexagonal form, with walls of large stones 32 meters height and 12 meters approximately thickness. The buildings out of bricks various colors and were covered out of slate. The ditches had a width of 32 meters and a depth of four. Under the reign of Charles VII (1422-1461), the castle was again besieged by the English, who did not manage to seize some. Continued by the French, they confused a narrow and deep pit with the Sauldre which they thought of being able to pass to ford. Much there being drowned, this place was called thereafter " the pit in Anglais".

the royal bailliage of Concressault

After having been simple a Châtellenie, Concressault became seat of a royal Bailliage under the reign of Charles VIII (1483-1498) to replace Aubigny-on-Nère, given by the king to the Scottish family of the Stuart. One followed there the habit of Lorris - Montargis for the strongholds, and of Berry for the goods in commoner's condition.
