the Concept of spirit ( The Concept off Mind ) is a work of the Philosophe English Gilbert Ryle, published in 1949. This book is regarded as work founder of the Philosophie of the spirit, and she exerted a major and durable influence on the whole of philosophy anglo-saxone.

Ryle explains there the inherent Erreur S fundamental according to him with the Dualisme Cartésien ( received doctrines ) and with most of the Western philosophers of the 17th century and 18th century. For Ryle, the error first is a Erreur of category which it illustrates for this example: a student visits a Université: the Library, the laboratories, the hall sports, etc At the end, he asks: “ but where is the university? ”, as if it were about a different localization, similar to the visited places. However, according to Ryle, the error of category relates to the confusion of the directions which one gives at the end existence; indeed, one cannot say: there exists a library, laboratories, etc and a university; that amounts placing on the same plan of existence two types of things that one never includes/understands as follows: in fact, the university is the organization of its elements, it is not an element of itself.

Descartes makes the same error by distinguishing the body and the heart, and it becomes necessary to take again the " logical geography of knowledge that we have of it already . "
