Conas
The French village of Conas is mentioned for the first time in the texts in 1100. This village concerned the diocese of Agde.
Located at the south of Pézenas, close to a loop of the Herault, it was surrounded by vineyards and many olive groves. On the river several mills were built of which only one remained until our days.
From now on, Conas is a hamlet of Pézenas (Herault) since the French revolution.
The by-pass of Pézenas, built recently years, cuts the hamlet partly, thus removing exceptional vineyards.
Places and monuments
- Vault Saint Martin's day : its patron saint is Saint Martin's day. The vault is located apart from the walls of the village. It is mentioned since 1133 like possession of évêché of Agde. The building remained with the use of the inhabitants of Conas where it was celebrated there the baptisms, marriages and burial. The regists of the vault are held today in the town hall of Pézenas and go back to the beginning of the 17th century. The cemetery still of weak use today is coupled with the building.
- Castle of Conas : the castle of current Conas dates Des. It does not remain more nothing the castle going back to before the 17th century. It belongs from now on to the family Mas, producer of wines of Conas and the surroundings.
- Mill : the last mill of Conas dates from 16th, 18th and 18th centuries. The body of southern building was set up in 1728.
