Conan Meriadec (Kynan Meriadec in Welsh) is a legendary king of Roman Brittany.
He would have been born in the Great Britain at the end of the 4th century, and passed in the Gaulle S towards 384, with the tyrant Maxime, of which he served the interests, would have become Duc of Armorique ( dux bellorum , i.e. war leader) and would have controlled during 26 years, under the dependence of the Romans, the part of the known Armorique since under the name of Brittany.
In 409, the Armorican S, being raised, they would have conferred on Conan the sovereign authority which it would have preserved until its death (421), to bequeath it to its descendants, which were since princes then kings and finally dukes of Brittany. He resided at Nantes.
Another version is presented by the Mabinogion: it would have been charged by Magnus Maximus with controlling Brittany.
