Conakry is the Capitale of the République of Guinea, its historical center is located on the island of Tombo, in the Atlantic Ocean. In 2005, the agglomeration was estimated at 1.425.000 inhabitants, which in fact by far the first metropolis of the country. The built territory overflows today largely on the continent, in particular on the peninsula of Kaloum to which the island is connected by a dam. The port activity constitutes today a major sector of the economy of the city.

Conakry was created officially by the French colonizers in 1887 by the agglomeration of four villages: Conakry, Boulbinet, Krutown and Tombo. Conakry becomes the capital of the colony of the " Rivers of Sud" in 1889 then of the colony of Guinea-Frenchwoman in 1891.
