It is the family of the Ortie (kind Urtica ) of the officinal Pariétaire (kind Parietaria ) and of the Ramie (kind Boehmeria ), the latter cultivated for the production of fibers and which proves to be also, in tropical zone, an excellent fodder.
The phylogenetic classification APG II (2003) locates this family in the Rosales and incorporates in it the kinds of the family of the Cecropiaceae : Cecropia, Coussapoa, Myrianthus, Musanga, Poikilospermum, Pourouma .
