Computers HP

As of the introduction of its first pocket calculator in 1972, the HP-35 (which owes its name with the number of keys), the firm Hewlett-Packard was essential among the scientific community. Choosing the Polish Notation as of the medium of the Années 1960 with the precursors reverses which were the series HP 98XX, the effectiveness and the precision exceeded those of other marks appreciably. This hegemony lasted until the beginning of the Années 1990 where the firm, directing itself towards the medical device and data processing, did not give the means any more to the department " Personal Calculators" to develop.

One can quote the great stages of the firm by the models and technological advances in time:

" Classics"

  • 1972 : HP-35, the first electronic computer of pocket comprising the functions available on a slide rule
  • 1973: HP-80, the first computer of Hewlett-Packard to financial vocation
  • 1973: HP-45, evolution of the HP-35
  • 1974: HP-65, first programmable pocket calculator. The technology of permanent memory being at this time too expensive, it was replaced by a mass memory in the magnetic shape of strip. The computer had an integrated reader of these magnetic bands.
  • 1974: HP-70, financial computer, version reduced of the HP-80
  • 1975: HP-55, first pocket calculator having a clock
  • 1976: HP-67, replacing advanced HP-65, it takes again the magnetic card reader. It is also the last of the line of Classics.

" Woodstock"

  • 1975 : HP-21, basic scientific computer, replacing HP-35
  • 1975: HP-25, programmable scientific computer basic
  • 1975: HP-22, basic financial computer, replacing HP-70
  • 1976: HP-27, the " knife suisse". It combines financial functions and scientists
  • 1976: HP-25C, first computer scientific and programmable with memory continues
  • 1977: HP-29C, scientific and programmable computer with memory continuous, more advanced than HP-25C

" Topcat" In fact computers of office with printer, but also function on batteries.

  • 1976: HP-91, scientific and statistical computer with printer.
  • 1976: HP-97, variation with printer of HP-67. The two computers are compatible and can exchange data or programs via the magnetic card reader.
  • 1976: HP-95C, scientific and programmable computer with constant memory. has never marketed because being a version reduced of HP-97 (not of magnetic card reader) for about at the same price. Exist only in the form of prototype.
  • 1977: HP-92, advanced financial computer with printer.
  • 1977: HP-97S, computer HP-97 with a port of extention of inputs/outputs.

  • 1977: HP-10, first calculatice HP not to use the Polish Notation reverses.
  • 1977: HP-19C, version " with imprimante" HP-29C.

" Spice"

  • 1978 : HP-31E, scientific computer, replacing HP-21.
  • 1978: HP-33E, programmable scientific computer, replacing HP-25
  • 1978: HP-38E, first financial and programmable computer.
  • 1978: HP-32E, scientific and statistical computer.
  • 1979: HP-33C, programmable scientific computer, replacing HP-25C
  • 1979: HP-34C, first computer (programmable) to integrate the functions of resolution of zero of an equation (by the method of Newton) and integration.
  • 1979: HP-37E, financial computer.
  • 1979: HP-38C, version with memory continues HP-38E.

the series of the 41 " Coconut "

  • 1979: HP-41, first alphanumeric computer, also considered as minicomputer. First computer HP with screen with liquid crystals. To note that if the computer is equipped with an important and extensible random access memory, the Engineer S HP chose compatibility with the preceding models (HP 65 and 67) by the possibility of joining the machine to a card reader. This very popular series comprised many accessories: plug-ins of memory or applications, printer, magnetic band or diskette, cassette player, interfaces video, reader of code bar,… the whole connected to the calculator by the system HP it, kind of system USB before the letter…

" Voyagers" :

  • 1981 : HP-10C, HP-11C, HP-12C and HP-15C. Succeeding Spice (HP-3x), it profit from their performances which were improved and from a screen either in very readable LED but with Liquid crystals. Their horizontal orientation confers an increased ergonomics and a legibility to them, strongly appreciated their users who do not hesitate to probe the second-hand market to acquire one of them.
  • 1982: HP-16C, first and to date only computer intended for the data processing specialists.

the series " Pionneer"

  • HP-22S
  • HP-27S
  • HP-32S
  • HP-10B, financial
  • HP-17B then HP-17B II, financial

Other computers remarkable HP:

  • 1987 : HP-28C/S (first computer to integrate RPL)
  • 1988: HP-32S and HP-32S II
  • 1988: HP-42S, remaining according to certain impassioned the best computer HP ever produced
  • 1990: HP-48SX, the first of successful series
  • 2000: HP-Xpander, last project of Corvalis division, was abandoned whereas samples had been distributed free to professors. They currently reach several hundred Euros on the sites of sale on line.

Currently, the production and the design of the new models of computers HP are entirely sub-contracted by Kinpo, company Chinese.
