Complex environmental Saint-Michel
The environmental complex Saint-Michel is a metropolitan park located in the district of Villeray-Saint-Michel-Park-Extension of the town of Montreal, with the Quebec. Of a current surface of 48 hectares, it is located on an old limestone quarry (known as Miron career).
The town of Montreal acquired of the career in 1988 in order to make of it a site of hiding of the residues. Starting from 1995, the site is constantly altered under the direction of the city, in order to make of it an urban green area, now comparable in surface with the park of the Royal Mont. It has to become the largest city park of the city from here a few years, with a surface estimated at 192 hectares.
Nearly 75 hectares are always used for the elimination of waste. Indeed, the complex comprises in addition to the park a center of matter recovery which can be recycled, a powerplant functioning thanks to the recovery of biogases, a site of composting as well as a site of hiding.
The Center of expertise on the residual matters (CEMR), dedicated in the search and the application of an effective, ecological and durable management of the residual matters is located in the complex. For a few years the Quoted of Arts of the circus (TOHU), a non-profit making company, has been installed on the site. To multiple vocations, this one was given for mission of making of Montreal an international capital of arts of the circus, of contributing to the environmental rehabilitation of the site of hiding and of supporting the Community development of the Saint-Michel district.
