Compay Segundo
Compay Segundo (November 18th 1907 - July 14th 2003), guitarist and Song cuban or .
From its true name Máximo Francisco Repilado Muñoz, it was born with Siboney, seaside close to Santiago of Cuba where it grows then. His/her father was employed by the company of the mines like driver of Locomotive.
He learns how to play very young person of the Tres and the guitar with his brothers, at the 14 years age he receives lessons of Solfège before being integrated like Clarinettiste into the municipal Fanfare of Santiago. He also plays of the Bongos.
At fifteen years, it composes its first song: " Yo vengo aquí".

In 1934, Ñico Saquito, celebrates musician of the time, notices it and asks him to join its Cuarteto, with which it leaves for Havana.
In 1936, it leaves to the Mexico like member Cuarteto Hatuey, taken along by Evelio Machin (brother of the singer Antonio Machin). There there remain six months and record its first 78 turns. On its return, Francisco Repilado records for the RCA-Victor firm, with Trío Cuba.
In 1940, Miguel Matamoros, originating him also in Santiago, engages Francisco Repilado in its group, like Clarinettiste.
Handling with same virtuosity the its and humor in a vein close to the Trio Matamoros, it acquires a durable fame in Cuba and in everyone Spanish-speaking at the sides of Lorenzo Hierrezuelo in the duet Los Compadres between 1942 and 1955.
Hierrezuelo makes the principal voice and the guitar of accompaniment, Repilado makes the second voice from where the nickname of Compay Segundo (accomplice second) and the guitar soloist with his " armónico". The daily radio program of Los Compadres is listened in all the island, and even in the neighbor Dominican Republic. Their style where the Proverbe S, the features of Humor and strong allusions dominate, makes them popular near humble people, in the campaigns as in the cities. In 1955, an estrangement puts an end to collaboration between the two men. Lorenzo Hierrezuelo calls with his/her with dimensions his/her younger brother Reynaldo and Compadres will continue their career until the middle of the Eighties.
Compay, on its side, takes retreat with the music and finds its use of " tabaquero" (manufacturing Cigar S).
In 1970, the year of its Retirement, Compay takes again the music and " el armónico" , gathers a group of musicians, and again enters to the studio in order to record a disc. It goes back a time to Santiago or it creates Cuarteto Daiquiri, and plays with the famous Cuarteto Patria.
In 1988, it takes part in the festival organized by the Smithsonian Institute of Washington and the musicologist cuban Danilo Orozco, as a special guest of the Cuarteto Patria (which it will join with the invitation of Eliades Ochoa), and interprets for the first time “Chan Chan” which quickly becomes traditional Its Cuban.
In 1992, it records 3 titles in Duo with Pablo Milanés, the most famous cuban singer of the Nueva Trova, on the album of this last, Años III (Egrem).
In 1994 it traverses the Europe with its four-bit byte “Compay Segundo known there Muchachos” with Benito Suárez (Guitare), Hugo Garzón (singer and Maracas) and his son El Salvador Repilado (low). It takes part in the meeting " Flamenco there Its cubano" with Seville in July then records CD with the the Canaries.
In 1995 it makes its first round in France and Belgium and records in Madrid its Antologia , double CD with 34 songs, written for the period going of 1922 and 1994.
Its albums Yo Vengo Aquí (1996) and Calle salud (1999) will be Disque of gold.
In 1997, the exit of the album Buena Vista Social Club produces by Ry Cooder (accompanied by documentary of Wim Wenders in 1999) universally reveals its attaching personality and its talent. He plays of the Conga S too.
November 15th, 1997, at the time of its 90 years, it accepted Orden Felix Varela, higher distinction honorary of the world of arts in Cuba.
He often said that he would live until the 115 years age, by smoking a puro (Cigare) per day…, but he dies at the age of only 95 years, to Havana.
