The standard library of C++ ( Standard C++ Library in English) is a library of classes and functions standardized for the language C++. It provides a certain number of classes such as for example:

the handling of character strings
the handling of flow (file…)
of the containers allowing for example to traverse their contents
a collection of algorithms of low level

The standard library of C++ contains also the standard Bibliothèque of C.

This library is the result of the evolution of several libraries, sometimes developed independently by several suppliers of C++ environments, which were amalgamated and standardized in order to guarantee the portability of the programs which use them. One of principal bricks of this library is without any doubt the STL (abbreviation of “Standard Template Library”), so much so that there is often confusion between the two.
