Comparison of the championships of Formula 1, Field Because and IndyCar

The championships of Formula 1, Field Because and IndyCar are three championships of quite distinct single-seaters. Formula 1 is a championship of the world including/understanding of the tests on all the continents. The Field Because and IndyCar are North-American championships, even if the Field Because includes/understands five tests out of North America and IndyCar one.

The Field Because

  • Contrary to F1, no team manufactures neither her frame, nor its engine. Until the end of 2006, those bought their frames with independent manufacturers like Lola, Swift, Reynard or March. An exception: the team Penske Racing manufactured her own frame until the end of the Nineties.
  • Since 2007, to reduce the costs and to improve the output, all are equipped with the same frame, the DP-01 built by Elan Motorsports Technologies (Panoz).
  • In the same way the engine is common, it acts of a V8 turbocompressé of 2,65 liters provides by Cosworth (property of the organizers of the championship, Gerald Forsythe and Kevin Kalkhoven).
  • Like Formulates 1 of them, the tires are of mark Bridgestone. In 2007 Formula 1 adopted the principle of Champcar, each car having to use at least two qualities of gum to each race. In Champcar the tender tires have the red side, Formulates 1 of them the tender gums are characterized by a white groove on the tread. In Champcar like 1 Formulates some, the quality of hard gum is identifiable by the absence of particular indication.

The material being " mono-marque" , the piloting and the know-how of the teams as regards adjustments make the difference.

Races of Field Because

  • the majority of the races are held in the United States.
  • the races of ChampCar proceed on several types of circuits. One finds circuits downtown, similar to the Circuit of Monaco, and road circuits equivalent to the traditional circuits of F1. In 2007 plus any oval is not with the calendar.
  • the departures are launched, i.e. the cars follow the Pace Because (the security car) and the departure is made when the latter is erased. When there is an incident in track, Pace Because enters in track, which causes to gather all the cars behind it and to make it possible the competitors to supply without wasting time. When there is no more danger and that the possible remains were recovered by the police chiefs, the race is started again. In 2007, the standing starts were set up on certain circuits to give again interest at the beginning of the race, they proceed like formulates 1 of them after a turn of formation. In the event of incident of race with exit of Pace Because, the following departures are launched.
  • Contrary to F1, the cars do not run to the regular gas, but to the Méthanol since 1964. This alcohol with the characteristic not to make flames when it burns and dies out with water. That can give place to spectacular scenes in the stands in the event of fires at the time of supplies because one does not see flames to set ablaze the stand.
  • No help electronic with piloting is authorized and the aerodynamic development is very limited, which bubble of the performances of the teams which concentrate specifically on the adjustments of the shock absorbers and the differential.

The payment of the ChampCar thus makes the good share with piloting and the strategy in race of the teams by limiting drastiquement the use of state-of-the-art technologies.

IndyCar

  • Indycar puts in confrontation single-seaters built by various manufacturers.
  • Actuellement the Châssis are built by Panoz and Dallara (since 1997), but Riley&Scott produced frames for the IRL of 1997 to 2000 and Falcon has the right to produce frames for this championship but in forever produced, for lack of order.
  • Of 1997 to 1999, the engines were V8 4 liters atmospheric products by Oldsmobile or Infiniti. In 2000 the cubic capacity was reduced to 3,5 liters then in 2004 to 3 liters to reduce top speed. The engines are from now on of V8 of 3,5 liters produced by Honda and functioning with the ethanol.
  • In the past, Honda, Toyota and Chevrolet produced engines for the series.
  • the tires are of mark Firestone, a subsidiary company of Bridgestone.

Races of IndyCar

  • the principle of the IndyCar races is the same one as that of the Champ races Because.
  • On the sixteen races which account the calendar of IndyCar, only one proceeds out of the the United States, this test disputes with the Japan on the oval of Motegi.
  • Contrary to the championship Field Because, IndyCar is run mainly on oval circuits. Two are held on urban circuit: with Holy Petersburg (Florida) and Beautiful Isle - Strait (Michigan) like three on road circuits: Mid-Ohio (Ohio), Sonoma (California), and Watkins Glen (New York)
  • the major event of the season is held at the time of the mythical race of the 500 Miles of Indianapolis.

The fastest turn in race of the Grand Prix of F1 was established by Kimi Räikkönen into 1 ' 15.841, that of the race of Field Because per Sebastien Bourdais into 1 ' 22.325.
