Company of the Railroads of Cambrésis

The Société of the Railroads of Cambrésis was a railroad company known as “of local interest” serving the Cambrésis and the north of the Aisne. Founded in 1880 by three engineers, Misters Chevalier, Rey and Lambert, this company exploited a network with narrow gauge railway (1 meter) a 120 kilometers length, which comprised three lines served by Locomotives with vapor:

The station of Caudry-Cambrésis was the center of this network. The openings of lines spread out of 1881 to 1904.

The network of Cambrésis, completely destroyed during the First World War, was rebuilt gradually: the line Caudry - Villers-Outréaux was reopened in 1921, Villers-Outréaux - Saint-Quentin-Cambrésis in 1923. In 1955 the exploitation of the railway lines was abandoned on the whole of the network, only the connection Caudry - Denain remaining for the travellers and the goods until 1960.

Today the Company of the Railroads of Cambrésis ensures, in spite of its name, the passenger transport per road.
