Company Malian for the development of the textile
The Compagnie Malian for the development of the textile (CMDT) is a company Malian of State created in 1974 to manage the die Coton. It is charged to organize the production and the marketing of cotton on the extent of the territory Malian. They have several production sites through the country, in particular with Koutiala, Fana…
Partially privatized (DAGRIS, Development of Agricultural processing industries of the South, old French Company for the development of the textile, holds 40% of the capital), its total privatization is programmed for 2008. This privatization, required by the Fonds international currency (the IMF) is rejected by the peasants and their organization. The Forum of the people joined together to Fana (Mali) launched in July 2005 a petition claiming the abandonment of the privatization of the CMDT.
The CMDT inaugurated on June 18th, 2005 a new factory of shelling in Ouéléssébougou, in the Office zone of the high valley of Niger (OHVN), of a capacity of 230 tons per day. With this new factory, the full capacity of shelling of the CMDT reaches 575.000 tons of fiber per annum.
In 2006, the marketing of cotton by the CMDT was overdrawn of 27 billion francs CFA, against 43 billion in 2005. For the administrators of the CMDT, this deficit is explained by the world fall of the course of cotton and the retreat of the dollar vis-a-vis the euro. CFA franc is indeed related to the euro by a fixed parity.
