Compacted of Naraoia

The compacted of Naraoia is a Trilobite Schistes of Burgess. It measured approximately 4 cm and had only two shields (cephalon and thorax) rather than the three usually carried by the others. When Walcott released this fossil for the first time of the schistous rocks of Burgess, he was unaware of that the soft body of the animal was protected by a carapace and that both were fossilized. For this reason, Walcott assigned Naraoia with shellfish. Later, the paleontologists realized that the special circumstances of fossilization of the schist of Burgess allowed a thorough analysis of the specimens. Thus, the professor Harry Whittington examined the interior soft parts and found the characteristics of distinction of the trilobites.
