Comnene
The Comnène , Comnenus or Komnenos (in Greek old Κομνηνοί ) is a family of the Byzantine nobility whose certain members became Byzantine emperors.
It is resulting from Comnène Handbook, a general who defended the town of Nicée in 978. His/her son Isaac became emperor after having reversed Michel VI, but abdicated then in favor of Constantin X Doukas. Twenty years later, in 1081, its nephew Alexis I {{er}} Comnène reversed the usurper Nicéphore III and became emperor. Its descendants reigned until in 1185, year when Andronic Ier was reversed, then on the Empire of Trébizonde of 1204 with 1461, where they ^prirent the title of Large Comnènes.
She claimed herself resulting from one of the ancestors of Constantin, provided six emperors to Constantinople, with Héraclée and ten with Trébizonde.
The six emperors of Constantinople are:
- Isaac Comnène, 1057 - 1059;
- Alexis Comnène I, 1081 - 1118;
- Jean II Comnène, 1118 - 1143;
- Manual Ier Comnène, 1143 - 1180;
- Alexis II Comnène, 1180 - 1183;
- Andronic Ier Comnène, 1183 - 1185.
Andronic was détrôné by Isaac II Angel, and its forever private family of the sceptre of Constantinople. Its grandsons, taken refuge near the queen Thamar of Georgia, their aunt, based with the support of this one a Greek empire with Trébizonde, on the ultimate Eastern edge of the medieval western world, whose Alexis was the first emperor while his David brother associated with the new State the territories of the Paphlagonie, of Héraclée and Bridge. This empire existed of 1204 until the conquest of Mehmed II, in 1461.
The remainders of this family took refuge with Maïna in Morée, and from there in the Corsica island of ; certain descendants of Demetrius de Comnène, which was made recognize prince by Louis XVI, still live in France today. See: Abrantes.
