Commune (Luxembourg)

The common is the smallest administrative division of the Luxembourg, which is divided with the more high level into three districts, themselves divided into 12 cantons, in their turn subdivided in 116 communes.

Administration of the commune

There is in each commune a communal body which is composed of the town council, of the college of the burgomaster and aldermen and the burgomaster.

The communal advisers are elected directly by the voters of the commune.

The canton perhaps considered rather as regional division, because the connection commune-district is direct, the canton not comprising administration itself making intermediate between the communes and the district. The commune of Luxembourg is not supervised by the police chief of district, his relationships to the ministry are direct.

There exists cepenpant organizations which gather by canton such as for example the Firemen who are directed by a commander of the canton.

The ministry in charge of the communes is the Ministry for the Interior.
