Common Tanaisy

The common tanaisy ( Tanacetum vulgare ), still called barbotine , is a long-lived Plante herbaceous of the family of the Asteraceae , very commune in Europe.

A close species, the annual Tanaisie, is more specific areas the Mediterranean.

Description

It is a large plant, aromatic, with the set up Tige S, the pennatilobate sheets, the toothed segments, with the yellow flowers, made up of identical florets all, grouped in flowerheads in the shape of buttons.

There exists many Chémotype S different from tanaisy: with Camphor, Bornéol, Cinéol, etc… All these plants have a different odor.

Use

The tanaisy could be used formerly as vermifuge, it contains an essential oil whose component, the Thujone, is very toxic with high amount. Its sheets prepared out of infusion were famous to have tonic, antispasmodic and febrifuge properties.

It also has properties insects repellant, effective against the Fourmi S, the Mite S, the chip S, the Punaise S. One employs it by preparing sachets of sheets and dried inflorescences.

This plant is quoted in the Capitulaire De Villis dating from the beginning of IXe century, among the vegetables and aromatic recommended.

It is also a decorative plant, in particular the variety crispum with curly and very cut out sheets.
