Committee off correspondence
The committee off correspondence or committee of correspondence was a body organized by each local government of the American colonies with an aim of coordinating the communications written between the colonies. The committees of correspondence played a big role during the Guerre of independence of the United States of America and during the time which preceded, by spreading the colonial interpretation of the British actions among the colonies and near foreign governments. The committees of correspondence rejoined the opposition to the common cause and established collective action plans. The group of the committees was the first steps of what would become then a formal political union between the colonies.
At that time, the news was generally diffused in form handwritten and transported by mails with horse or boat. The committees had the responsibility to make sure that this news reflected perfectly the opinion of their local government, on the covered subject, and of their routing to the good recipients. Many correspondents were also member of the colonial legislative bodies and were also active in the organization secrete off Sons Liberty .
The first committees of correspondence were made initially temporarily following problems or of particular events and were then dissouts. The first formal committee was formed with Boston, in 1764, in order to rejoin the opposition to the Currency Act and the unpopular reforms of the customs.
