Committee of general security

The committee of general security , old Inspection committee of the Legislative which was created the November 25th 1791, took the name of Comité of general security after the August 10th, 1792. It continued temporarily its functions under the Convention, then, reorganized, definitively by decree of the October 2nd 1792. It had its buildings in the hotel of Brionne, now disappeared, and was connected by a corridor to the house of Marsan.Formé of 12 elected each month by national Convention and re-eligible members. It directed the police force and justice revolutionists. It was primarily made up of mountain deputies and was charged to apply measurements of police force against the suspects. True " ministry for Terreur" after the elimination of Of Gironde (June 2nd, 1793). The Committee sought the suspects and sent the accused in front of the revolutionary Tribunal. It wrote the orders of arrest, which were carried out under the direction from the twelve Policiers of Paris named by the Commune.

After the elimination of the Of Gironde in Meadow year I (June 1793), this committee was charged to apply the Terreur.

As from the spring of year II, the majority of its members enter in conflict with the Comité of public hello which they regard as the mad ones. In Messidor, Vadier reads the file with load (Catherine Théot) with the mysticism of Maximilien de Robespierre which it created. After the great terror , the second file assembled to ridicule Robespierre achieves its goal the 9 Thermidor (July 27th 1794).

The Committee of general security was removed in October 1795, under the Directoire.

The name and the number of members of the Committee varied much. It counted a maximum of 30 members at the time of his organization on October 2nd, 1792 and a minimum of 9 members in September 1793. Of Germinal at Thermidor year II, it was composed of 12 members, namely:
