Commission of the Indian Ocean

The Commission of the Indian Ocean (COI) is an intergovernmental organization joining together certain countries of the Indian Ocean.
History
Created in January 1984 by the general agreement of Co-operation of Victoria, the COI initially gathered Madagascar, Maurice and Seychelles.It counts among its members, since January 1986, current Union of the Comoros and France acting on behalf of the Meeting.
In September 2005, the COI asks for the statute of observer near the general meeting of the the United Nations.
Objectives
- diplomatic
- economic cooperation and commercial co-operation
- co-operation in the field of agriculture, the maritime fishing and the conservation of the resources and the ecosystems
- co-operation in the fields cultural, scientific, technical, of education and as regards justice.
- to promote " the indo-océanité"
