Commios

Commios (Latinized in ''' Commius ''' or is initially known to us by César, in the Guerre of Gaules : it is named there king of the tribe of the Atrébates after the Roman conquest, into 57. Then, in 55, it is used by César as emissary near the Celtic people of the island of Brittany (current Great Britain) where a branch of Atrébates is installed, and will succeed in rejoining some of them with the Roman cause.

When Vercingétorix rebels against Rome, in 52, Commios follows it in the defeat. He flees then again in Brittany, as Frontin tells it (Strategemata).

Around 30, Commios seems to be established as king of Atrébates in Brittany and to have founded its kingdom. It will emit currencies with its name starting from Calleva, current Silchester, until 20. It will have had three wire: Tincomaros, Eppillos and Verica. It is estimated that the elder one reigned jointly with him from 25, while with its death, the kingdom will be divided between Tincomarus, with north (Calleva), and Eppillus in the south (Noviomagus).

Commios thus lived at the time of the first contacts between Rome and Brittany, and was fully taken by it with part, since in first half of its life, it was attached to Jules César (emissary king then), and that in the second, it seems rebel and fugitive.

It is true that the only testimony of which we lay out, on this level, is that of Frontin, which will order the Roman legions in Brittany from 69 to 98.
