Comminges
Situation
This old region of the southernmost France, in High the Gascogne, distributed today between the departments of the Haute-Garonne, the Ariège and the Gers, divided:- in Gascon Comminges or Haut-Comminges , in the South, between the Bigorre and the Couserans; chief town Saint-Bertrand-with-Comminges; other cities: Saint-Martory, Montespan, Low wall, Lombez, Aurignac, Isle-in-Dodon;
- in Comminges Languedocien , known as also Bas-Comminges and Small Comminges , in North East, between Gascon Comminges, Couserans, the County of Foix and the High-Languedoc; cities, Saint-Happy and Valentine.
Comminges is divided into small countries centered mainly on the high valley of the the Garonne and on that of its affluent the Pique: Larboust , country of Luchon , Ballongue , Oueil , Bavartès , Layrines , Frontignès , country of Winder , country of River , country of Dodon .
The term of Nebouzan applies more specifically to the area of Saint-Gaudens.
The Gallo-Roman site of Lugdunum Convenarum, close to Saint-Bertrand-with-Comminges, was the capital of the Convènes (in Latin Convenae ).
