Commandos

Commandos is a Série of video game created by Pyro Studios in 1998 with Commandos: Behind the enemy lines , and which has until now summer published by Eidos Interactive. The player directs there a team of Commando S through several armed conflicts of the Second world war. The first plays are rather tactical strategy kind in real-time and use a view from above on the parade ground, the last title, Commandos Strike Force uses when with him a seen subjective; all have however a component strong infiltration.

Presentation

The player directs a team of commandos in several armed conflicts of the Second world war, and must achieve missions of assassination, sabotage, of exfiltration, to advance in the play. They are plays of infiltration because it is necessary to give importance to the analysis of the ground and involved forces, before passing to the action under penalty of seeing itself inflicting heavy losses. To lose only one of its men amounts losing the part.

The play resembles Mission impossible (televised series) or The Lost Vikings , because each character of the commando is single (a spy, a mechanic, a green beret,…) and has single personal competences (disguise, driving vehicles, camouflage,…) according to its knowledge and of its equipment. Only one of them could not with him only finish a mission, only the group can advance.

The scenario is linear, but each mission is described in an exhaustive way thanks to a photo file and video where the objectives are presented. Then the phase comes from play. It presents an air view of the zone of play, and the least details are visible at any moment. One can then observe the movements of the enemies, like their field of view. It is then possible to develop a strategy and finally to pass to the action.

Although the first missions are very simple and are used as initiation, very quickly they become complex and towards the end require to synchronize in time its commandos, each one helping the other to advance and thus to achieve the mission.

Innovator in the kind, it arrives that the " term is used; commandos-like" to indicate this kind of play of infiltration in air sight.

The series

Commandos: Behind the enemy lines

See the article devoted to Commandos: Behind the enemy lines
The play occurs during the Second world war and gives to the player the command of six combined commandos, each one specialized in a field: green beret, sniper, driver, bomb disposal expert, naval frogman and spy.

Twenty missions are proposed in four different theaters of operations: Norway, North Africa, France and Germany. The player must fill all the objectives without losing only one man.

Commandos: the Direction of the duty

This second shutter extended in 1999 brings eight new missions like two new characters: a resistant Dutch and a member of the Yugoslav army .

Commandos 2: Men off Courage

Two years after the first continuation the Direction of the duty , Pyro Studios publishes the play Commandos 2 . It is in three dimensions, which makes it possible to evolve/move in interior and external decorations. A new handset of camera was imagined what makes it possible to turn the camera to 360°. The play includes/understands 10 missions plus 10 missions no-claims bonus which make travel to the four corners of the world (Burma, France, Thaïland…). The team of the commandos accommodated two new recruits: a robber (Lupin), and a bulldozer burrow named Whiskey.

Commandos 3: Destination Berlin

See the article devoted to Commandos: Destination Berlin
New opus left in 2003, Commandos 3 offers a sequence of missions in various mediums such as Stalingrad, Western Europe and Normandy. The team of commandos is composed here of six characters - keys: green beret, sniper, bomb disposal expert, mechanic, robber, spy and naval frogman. This episode dissociates others by the speed to be acted (certain missions being timed, unlike the other shutters) due to an action more present, with the detriment of the tactical direction.

Commandos: Strike Forces

Fifth opus of the saga, Commandos: Strike Force is rather based on the action/strategy in subjective Vision (tactical FPS). The player directs a team of three commandos to knowing a green beret, a sniper and a spy through a series of missions in France, Norway and Russia. The minor amount of commandos is compensated by their universality and many the scenes of combat in team to the firearm.

To note

Various compilations left in the trade gathering some opus Commandos such as the Commandos: the Integral which gathers the two first opus as well as the extension of the first shutter.
