Commando parachutist of the Air n°10

The Commando Parachutist of the Air n°10 (CPA 10) is a unit of the French Air force, attached to the Special forces.

It is based on the Air base 123 Orleans-Bricy in the Loiret.

History

In 1965, the Squadron of the commandos of the air receives the mission of training the personnel in charge of the protection of the installations of the nuclear forces. After four years, it appears necessary to test the effectiveness of the devices safety installed. Thus, in 1969, the Squadron of evaluation and intervention (EEI) is set up and is established on air base 726 of Nimes - Courbessac. The EEI becomes Escadron of protection and intervention 11.301 (EAR 11.301) in 1979.

June 10th 1992, Pierre Joxe, Minister for Defense, signs a decree giving rise to the special forces. In September 1993, the staff of the Commandement of special operations (COS) is declared operational.

Units of the three armies are identified. They will be employed by the COS for the operations or within the framework of the drive interarmées. Being a question of the air force, in addition to air means, it is decided to place at the disposal of the COS commandos of the air who will be charged more particularly to facilitate engagement in the depth of the aircraft.

Thus, on January 1st 1994, the EAR becomes the Squadron of intervention of the commandos of air (EICA) by gathering the Commandos parachutists 10 and 40.

In July 1996, air base 726 of Nimes-Courbessac closes its doors and the CPA 10 becomes a unit with whole share whose official name becomes CPA 10.566. It is then stationed on BA 200 of Apt, which is in its closed turn, and the CPA 10.566 is installed in July 1999 on air base 123 of Orleans Bricy to the Reymondaud District.

Missions

The CPA 10 is a unit of mainly affected intervention for employment near the Command of special operations (COS). It holds important capacities in the fields of the information and the operations of the type Commando. Its missions have as an main objective to facilitate the engagement of the air means in the depth.

It is specialized in:

the designation of objectives and the laser guidance of the ammunition
recognition, seizure and handing-over in work of airport zones.
