Commandery of the Cavalry

The Commanderie of the Cavalry is located in the Département of Aveyron at six kilometers at the north of Holy-Eulalie-with-Cernon.

History

The commandery was founded in 1154. In the beginning, Templiers had built two city: Old Cavalry and New Cavalry . The first was completely destroyed in XIIIe century.

Towards 1307, the Hospital ones accepted the Cavalry and undertook to strengthen the city during the Guerre One hundred Year old. However at XVIe and XVIIe century, the village was taken by Huguenots and those destroyed the castle in 1580.

Organization

The commandery was consisted a church and its cemetery, the home of the Knights, a square tower and agricultural buildings (barns, stables,…).

Nowadays, the village appears such as it was in the time of the Hospital ones. The only vestiges still visible templiers of the time templière remains a piece of wall of the old church inside the current church which dates from the XVIIIe century
