Commandery of Savigny-the-Temple
Geographical description
Savigny-the-Temple is a commune of the Département of Seine-et-Marne in Ile-de-France located at 51 km in the south-east of Paris and at 8 km of Melun. Old the Commanderie templière is located in periphery of the city near D 346.
History
The king of France, Louis VII, share in crusade of 1147 with 1148. It is accompanied inter alia by a quota templier which appeared effective against the Turkish attacks in minor Asia. The king is of return in France mid-November 1149 in company of the Master of the Ordre of the Temple, Evrard of the Bars. Louis VII decides to thank the templiers in their giving his grounds for Savigny-on-Melun and all their dependences. This deed of gift made to Orleans comprises nineteen handwritten Latin lines. It is today preserved at the Public records with the dimension K23 N°15. It is authenticated by the affixing of the signatures of the witnesses, of the Monogram of the king and his seal. On these grounds, the templiers base a commandery. It is in remembering the period of property templière (1149 - 1312) that the borough taken the name of Savigny-the-Temple.
Organization
This commandery had a vault near which a cemetery could be localized. Archaeological excavations put at the day ten skeletons buried simply, arms crosseds on the chest.
Possessions
The charter of donation of 1149 does not specify the nature of the goods yielded by the king. The templiers increased their field by successive purchases of grounds located on the current communes of Savigny: Noisement and Cesson: Saint-Leu. With the dissolution about the Temple in 1312, the surface of the grounds is estimated at approximately 1500 Arpent S, which corresponds to 630 Hectare S.
The commandery had several firm neighborhoods, vineyards, meadows, ponds, and the mills of Saint-Leu.
State
Old commandery templière, it remains practically nothing. She was with the site the Large farm located on the old stronghold of Coulevrain transformed into écomusée.
