Commandery of Jalès
The commandery of Jalès is located in the plain of Berrias, on the commune of Berrias-and-Casteljau located in the department of the Ardèche and the area the Rhone-Alps.
History
The Commanderie was founded in 1140. It is famous to be one of oldest the commandery of France still in state. Like all the commanderies, it did not have military vocation. It was used to collect funds as well as vivres. It was enormously modifiee when it passed under the supervision of the hospital order to the 14th century.
