Comitard (folklore)

In the Folklore studied in Belgium, a comitard is a member elected or co-opted of a Comité of student's baptism or circle facultaire.

The comitard has the right to carry the Toge (see Aspect of the togas of baptism to the ULB) and to enter any folk activity apart from the strictly private meetings. It also has the duty and the responsibility to organize and perpetuate the traditions of its circle, in particular the baptism and the processions of Saint-Torus, Saint Nicolas's Day or of Saint-Verhaegen. The number of comitards per circle is limited. It is a statute which brings advantages (free entry, free drinks, information,…) and of prestige (in particular " the attraction of the uniforme"). It is also a demanding function in time and energy. The typical comitard quickly acquires a great endurance and roof its delay of sleep by dodging the courses.

To be eligible, a student must be at least Poils or Feathers. The seniority is a determining factor. A comitard with two stars (see Warp end) is often regarded as a trainee badly trimmed or future a star who must still discipline his talent. Certain stations are reserved for three or four stars, in particular, in certain circles, the presidencies, the trésorie and the secretariat, the organization of the ball facultaire and sponsorship. Certain circles refuse any candidature in lower part of three stars, to see three stars gilded in some committees of baptism inhabitant of Li2ege, whose significance is the success of at least 2 years of study.

The circles of ULB estimate that any person having been comitard in the past has the right to wear the toga at the time of the procession of St Vé. On the other hand, it is considered bad taste to present itself out of toga in a folk activity without being comitard active, a fortiori in an external circle where its statute is not known.

With Liege, the majority of the committees of baptism consider that the port of the toga is reserved for the togas current, and not with old, but certain committees do not see disadvantages so that the old ones keep on their toga when they leave their functions. Certain old are satisfied to carry their épitoges fixed on the chain of their Penne.
