Comiac

Comiac is a common French, located in the department of the Lot and the area the Midday-Pyrenees.

Geography

History

Comiac, one of the five communes of the Canton of Sousceyrac, with its some 40 hamlets, settled at an average altitude of 500 meters, strong a long time ago. One of these hamlets, Candes, which dominates Cère, finds its roots in the 11th century. But there exist traces even more remote. With the wire of the centuries, Comiac knew a rich and various history, whose great facts still remain to be studied… Some examples: in 1215, the future Louis VIII counted among his knights, Jean de Grenier, lord of Laborie and Comiac. In 1304, Gilbert de Vayrac granted to the inhabitants of the borough and some hamlets “their final franknesses, freedoms and habits”. In 1377, the Castle of Comiac fell to the hands from English (one hundred year old war). At that time, this castle was presented like most considerable of High Quercy. In 1569, the wars of religion touched hard Comiac which belonged to a catholic family whose lord was Jean de Saint Sulpice. By twice Comiac fell to the hands from the Protestants until 1586. About 1610, the church ruined by the wars was given in state… Many events marked the life of the commune which counted to 1200 inhabitants (today 250). Its inhabitants were touched by the wars and gave many soldiers to the nation…
