Comfort and indifference
Film pivot in the work of Denys Arcand between its more formal period and its cinema more normalized, Comfort and the indifference (1981) is besides the work of the scenario writer in whom the figure of the cynical intellectual makes his appearance, Machiavel.
The film, powerful, carries all the disappointment of the nationalist intellectual elites in front of the absence of the nationalist desire of the population, population that the film presents at the same time like amndt by North-American comfort, and victim of the control of the money and Ottawa. This film is, in certain scenes, heralding the popular figure of Elvis Gratton.
It will be also the occasion of a return semi-amused semi-land-mark over certain strong moments of the work of Arcand and the direct Cinéma, with the presence of certain important film protagonists, made during the Années 1960 and the Années 1970, of ONF.
