Combined First World War
The Alliés First World War are sometimes also called Forces of the Agreement or Triple Alliance . It is about the coalition formed with the length of the First World War between several countries against the Triplice.
The main allies were the France, the Russian Empire, the British Empire, the Italy and the the United States. France, Russia and the United Kingdom engaged in the First World War in 1914, consequently of the alliance of the Triple Alliance. Many other countries joined them all during the war (see below).
It should be recalled that the US president Woodrow Wilson and his government decided not to define the USA as an ally. The United States declared the war with the Germany following the Casus belli consisted the attack by German of the American merchant marine in violation of American neutrality. Thus American did not declare the war with the Ottoman Empire nor with the Bulgaria. They entered in war as a " power associée" , rather than as a formal ally of France and England and maintained this difference of statute throughout the conflict.
Although the States of the British Dominion and the colonies of the crown of the British Empire contributed significantly to the effort of war of allied they did not have a defense policy and foreign affairs independent of England. However the governments of the dominions controlled recruitment in their countries. The operational control of the Empire was with the hands of a cabinet of five members. Starting from beginning 1917 the cabinet was supervised by the imperial Cabinet of War where the dominions were represented. Later during the war the Australian and Canadian bodies were grouped within an army separated under the command from Australian and Canadian generals subjected to the authority from English and French hierarchically superiors.
In April 1918, the operational control of the forces allied on the Western Front passed to the hands of a new supreme commander, the Marshal of France Ferdinand Foch.
