In mathematics, the combinative topology is the old name of the algebraic Topologie.

History

At the time, the topological invariants (for example the numbers of Betti) were built using combinative decompositions of spaces, and it is easy to proceed in this manner with the complex simpliciaux, which count among the first studied spaces from the point of view of algebraic topology.

The name change probably proceeded in the Années 1930, and it is often allotted to the influence exerted by Emmy Noether.
