The history of Theophilus is known to us by saint Denys, bishop of Alexandria, in Egypt: a poor fellow was judged with the court of this city under the only pretext which it was Christian. He undoubtedly went Apostasie R when a colossus emerges, veteran of the guard of the governor, who approaches him and encourages it not to disavow its faith. It is about Theophilus, who are there accompanied by four friends, Ingène, Zénon, Ammon and Ptolémée. All the five, of a threatening voice, indicate to the judge that they are Christian too them. The magistrate judges wiser to withdraw itself, and Theophilus arises from the court by escorting the accused.
Saint Denys does not say anything on the possible continuation history. Theophilus would have died in 251, but it is not known if it were Martyr ized or not. Its name (Θεόφιλος Theophilos ) means in Greek old “friendly of God”.
