Columns rostrales of Duilius

The Colonnes rostrales of Duilius ( Columnae Rostratae Duilii ) were set up on the Forum Romanum by Caius Duilius Nepos, after agreement of the Roman Sénat, in the honor of its naval victory (Bataille of Mylae, first naval battle of the Romains) over the Carthaginois in 260 av. J. - C.

One of the columns remains still partly, and whose inscription is one of the most ancient monuments of the Latin language, which was several times reconstituted by various Roman Emperors. It is today with the Palais of the Conservatives .
