Colorado Springs

Colorado Springs is the second plus big city of the state of the Colorado and the forty-ninth plus big city of the the United States. The city is the seat of the county of El Paso. Colorado Springs is placed just at the east of the geographical center of the state and at 101 kilometers of south of the capital of state of Colorado (Denver). At an altitude of 1839 meters, Colorado Springs is located close to the base of one of the American mountains most famous, Pikes Peak, at the Eastern edge of the southernmost Rocky Mountains.

History

Colorado Springs was founded in August 1871 by the general William Palmer.

Demography

The office of census of the United States estimates that in 2005 the population of the town of Colorado Springs was 369.815 inhabitants (forty-ninth row), the population of the outskirts of the city of the city was of 587.500 inhabitants, and the population of the outer suburbs was 4,013,055 inhabitants. In July 2006, the Money magazine arranged Colorado Springs as being the best big city or food, which includes the cities with 300.000 people or more.

Transport

In 2004, the voters of Colorado Springs and county of El Paso established the rural authority of transport of Pikes peak and adopted a tax of sale of 1% devoted to improve the transport infrastructure regional.

A great number of military installations and important agencies of national defense are also based in Colorado Springs as well as the academy of the Air force of the United States, one of the five military academies of the United States. The city with a great strategic importance with the seat of NORAD and the United States Northern Command on the basis of of Peterson Air Force Bases and Cheyenne Mountain.
