Colorada lagoon

The Lagune Colorada is a Lagune located in the national Réserve of Andean fauna Eduardo Abaroa on the Altiplano Bolivia N in the Département of Potosí. It is close to the border with the Chile. It has a surface of 60 km ² and one average depth of 35 centimetres.

It is a lagoon of the " type; viola-andine" , which contains islands of Borax in the sectors the North-East and south-east. The red coloring of its water is due to sediments of red color and the pigments of certain types of Algue S which live there. It is a place of reproduction for the flamingos of the Andes, very beautiful migratory birds which one counts per thousands in this water rich in minerals.

It is one of Bolivian the Ramsar sites.
