Colony of settlement

A colony of settlement is a Colonie dependant on a Métropole which sends people to it - men, women and children - in order to establish a presence perennial and autonomous and to build a company there. This opened out new business and develops in particular thanks to agriculture, hunting and for the trade. She is opposed to the Colony-counter.
The term comes from the Latin colonia which indicates an extent reserved for agriculture. Colonia drift of the verb anger , to cultivate the ground. With the Roman epoch, the term indicates an extent conquered to be inhabited, and where a populated colony was established free citizens, Roman and Latin.

Today, one speaks about “colony of settlement” in connection with the civil population of the occupying power established (in violation of the Fourth of the Geneva Conventions) in a territory militarily occupied (especially in the israélo-Palestinian context).
