Colmar-Berg
Located at twenty kilometers of the capital, the village Luxembourg of Colmar-Berg is known for its Château which belongs to the large-ducal family and which saw being born several from her members. Currently, it is the large-duke Henri, the large-duchess Maria-Teresa and their five children who live there.
The origins of the Château of Colmar-Berg go back to the Moyen-âge. At the 19th century, it becomes the property of the royal family of the Netherlands which reigned at the time also on the Grand Duchy. At the time of the independence of the country in 1890, the field is acquired by the large-duke Adolphe. Important work is led there to the beginning of the 20th century. In 1934, the castle returns at the Luxembourg State which makes of it the place of residence appointed of the sovereign while the large-ducal palate of Luxembourg is reserved for the official receptions. For this reason after their abdication in October 2000, the large-duke Jean and the large-duchess Joséphine-Charlotte left the castle of Colmar-Berg to their successors and settled in the most modest castle of Fischbach.
The manufacturing plant of tires Goodyear and its test track employs more than 4000 workmen and is one of the most important companies of Luxembourg.
