  • the date of appearance of the term of Saint Mainboeuf is unknown, and the slip of name can be due to an increasingly important popular use, or to the installation of a canonic college by the bishop Ulger during first half of the 12th century.

Evolution of the statute during the working life

  • the first function of the building was a funerary basilica ( memoria ).

  • Under Ulger (1125 - 1148), a canonic chapter is installed, and will exist until the destruction of the building.
