Collegial Saint-Leger de Marsal

The collegial Saint-Leger of Marsal (the Moselle) is a church dedicated to the worship roman catholic. Initially of Romance Style, it knew several important modifications until our days.

History

The current church saw its first stones posed at the 12th century. The building were then of tradition Germanic with a deep bedside and two vaults directed as well as impressive Westwerk, solid mass Western. The church, parochial, is high under collegial in 1222 by the abess Clémence de Neumunster. She then installs there a chapter of 7 canons. Many mdifications will be brought to the church which one will pierce the openings, will aggrandir the chorus, to recut the pillars, to add a vault, a sacristy… Today, the building, although little saved by time, is an example of most diachronic religious architecture in the east of France. Long term jobs are planned for the year 2008 with an aim of consolidating the Western solid mass, weakened by the instability of the grounds.
