College of the Park

The college of the Park is a college of the Life district of Lyon (France), located near the Parc of the Gold Head, from where it draws its name.

Created in 1914 (but the first “normal” re-entry takes place only in 1919, the college is used during the First World War as barracks, then of hospital), it accommodates many preparatory classes (scientific, commercial and literary). It was in the beginning a college of boys (when the Lycée Edouard Herriot was a college of girls).

The college of the Park accommodates also primary classes until 1962 and of first cycle (college) until 1971. The lodging of preparatory classes belonged to the preliminary draft. The class of Khâgne, in particular, founded little time before the college, and briefly lodged with the College Amp (old college of Jesuits), was the first class of the kind to being open out of Paris. Edouard Herriot taught there.

During the Second world war, the college was used for quartering as German troops, then men of of Lattre de Tassigny, who had released it.
