College of Arras

The college of Arras is a college of old the Université of Paris.

It was founded before 1332 per Nicolas Canderlier, abbot of Wast Saint of Arras, for poor schoolboys of the diocese of Arras. The college accommodated four then eight stock-brokers. The college had incomes of the wood of the large island of Asnières, a small stronghold in province and some meadows in Clichy-the-Garenne.

From 1580, the college is implied in a financial quarrel with the monks of Saint-Wast. It undergoes then the fields of the wars of religion. From 1613 to 1642, the college is occupied by English priests and the Nation of Picardy of the university of Paris summons the monks of Saint-Waast to provide for the vacant purses. In 1713, the vice-chancellor of the university realizes again that the purses scholastics are used auxiliary for the monastic benefit; a stop of the Parliament authorizes it to sequester the goods and incomes of the foundation. In 1763, the administration of the college is joined together with the administration of the Louis-the-Large Collège.
