Collection of observation (sport of combat)

The collection of observation in sport gathers the various behaviors of a service. Thus, these observations could be exploited in the development of a plane tactic. At the time of the intervention of an external observer, it will be carried out using a card of observation whose headings specify the elements to be observed.

In sports of combat and in particular in boxing, it is consisted of the following data:

observation of the unfavourable characteristics, i.e. physical and psychic features of the opponent; in particular, body appearance (lateralization of the guard, morphology, scale, etc) and the mental state (feared, valiancy, etc);
observation of the unfavourable style, i.e. way of doing (and to be) adversary. One finds the type of posture (guard) and the manner of carrying out the opposition. Example: the adversary with the low guard, it centers its work on the withdrawal of bust, of the actions of response and against. It is thus combatant of a wait and see type for which, it will be necessary to organize an adapted play;
observation of the unfavourable actions of combat, i.e. offensive activities and counter-offensives (attacks, defense, response, against and strategies).

The observation of the adversary is carried out using visual reference marks which one calls “observable”. They are very few to avoid a dispersion of the acquisition of information (see table of the principal criteria of observation). Examples of observable: 1 the adversary is in “true-guard” or in “false-guard”, 2 the adversary is longiligne or squat, 3 the adversary fall on its blows or gathers quickly.

The pointed analysis of the data collected will feed the development of an assessment of observation (or card-indexes synthesis in the case of an external observer). The latter must make emerge the major aspects of the opposition, i.e. the characteristics and actions to be taken into account in priority. The whole will be formulated in terms of “weak points” and unfavourable “strong points”.
