The collar of Grimsel ( Grimselpass in German) is a collar of Suisse culminating with 2165 meters. It connects Innertkirchen in the Haslital (Canton of Bern) to Gletsch (Canton of Were worth).

The collar belongs to separation between the Rhenish basin (supplied with the Aar) and the basin of the the Rhone. The southern slope begins in Gletsch (common of Oberwald) which is also the starting point of the Col of Furka. The northern slope is longer and is spread out in the higher valley of the Aar over the common of Guttannen. The top of the collar is next to lakes of retention:

  • the Räterichsbodensee

  • the Grimselsee (1909 m) which is in the continuity of the Unteraargletscher , a glacier which is located Bernese side, and skirts the border with Were worth not far from the Finsteraarhorn.
  • the Oberaarsee (2303 m) located upstream Grimselsee

A Hospice was also built at the top of the collar and the area is the seat various underground experiments within the framework of the Grimsel Test Site. This scientific project aims at studying the storage of radioactive waste.

The road, open in 1894, has a 33 kilometers length and a declivity of 10%.
