Collar of Furka

The collar of Furka culminates with 2  436 Meter S of Altitude. It is located in the the Alps Suisse S and makes it possible to connect the valley of the the Rhone to Andermatt.

On the western slope, the road of the collar passes to a few hundred meters of the glacier of the the Rhone, source of the river of the same name, and makes it possible to discover it since a headland. On the western slope, until Gletsch (1  753 m), the road of the collar of Furka are the same one as that of the Col of Grimsel.

The collar rises between the the Alps uranaises and the the Alps lépontines, in the middle of the solid mass of the Saint-Gothard.

The road was open in 1867.
