Collar of Ayoûs

The collar of Ayoûs is a collar of mountain located at the foot of the Pic of Ayoûs (2288 m) between the Vallée of Winder and the Vallée of Ossau in the Yrénées-Atlantiques.

On its slope is are the Lakes Ayoûs (Lac Bersau, 2080  m; Lake Gentau, 1947  m; Lake of Miey; Lake Roumassot, 1845  m) and the refuge of Ayous .

The collar offers a passage to the GR. 10 since the Chemin of the Mast and the Baigt of Sencours in valley of Winder to join the Lac of Bious-Artigues in valley of Ossau. A more direct access out of Winder is possible since the small valley of Larry in the south of Urdos.

The word ayoû , an alternative of the Gascon Abayoû Bilberry Bilberry”, could explain this toponym, unless the absence of plural article does not indicate a more old origin.
