Cole Porter (June 9th 1891, Peru (Indiana) - October 15th 1964, Santa Monica (California)) was a Compositeur and Parolier américain.
One owes him the musical comedies KIS Me, Kate (1948) (adapted the tamed Shrew of William Shakespeare), Fifty Million Frenchmen and Anything Goes , as well as songs: Night and Day , I Get has off Kick Out You , I' ve Got You Under My Skin , I Coils Paris , It is Magnifique , etc It was noticed for its elaborate words and its intelligent rhymes.

Biography

Youth and beginnings

Cole Porter is born in an easy family; his/her grandfather was a structural timber and coal merchant. His/her mother gave him the first musical rudiments as of her more young age and made him learn the violin starting from the six years age then the piano two years later. At the ten years age, with the assistance of his mother, he wrote his first Opérette. His/her grandfather would have liked to see him embracing a lawyer career, which led the young man to enter to the Worcester Academy, then has to pass by the Université of Yale in 1909 (where he became member of the famous secret society Scroll and Key ), then to spend one year to the Harvard Law School in 1913. After having become aware of its predilection for the music, it gave up the study of the Droit to enter to the Harvard' S School off Music. In 1916, it presented to Broadway its first public work, See America First (on a booklet of Lawrason Riggs), which was a failure, representations ceasing at the end of two weeks only.

Stay in France

Shaken by this failure, Cole Porter engaged in the French Foreign legion and was useful in North Africa. In 1917, it was transferred to the School from officers from Fontainebleau, and affected with artillery courses bound for American soldiers. It arranged an apartment of luxury to Paris and shared its time between its functions of officer and a life playboy in the French capital. In 1918, it became acquainted there with Linda Lee Thomas (1883-1954), a rich person divorced Louisville (Kentucky), seven years its elder, which it married in 1919. Certain chroniclers of the time described it like “most beautiful in the world”. In 1923, Rolf de Maré orders to him a work for the Swedish Ballets: it composes Within the Quota , first “ballet jazz” of the history.

The first successes

Cole Porter started to meet success with her musical comedies and “isolated” songs, of which much was inspired by Fred Astaire. Cole Porter was victim of an accident of horsemanship in 1937, where it had the crushed legs, making him endure chronic pains all the remainder of her days and leaving it partially estropié. In 1990, appeared Red Hot and Blue , an album CD homage to Cole Porter whose benefit went to research on the AIDS. Principal successes of Cole Porter were taken again there by pop stars/rock'n'roll, such U2, David Byrne, Annie Lennox, Iggy Pop, Sinead O' Connor, the green Negresses, Neneh Cherry, Salif Keïta like Erasure.

Its life inspired with Michael Curtiz the film Nuit and day ( Night and Day ), left in 1946, with Cary Grant and Alexis Smith in the main roles.

Fifty-eight years later, Irwin Winkler, on the basis of scenario of Jay Cocks, is in its turn leant on the life To carry to draw from it the film With-Lovely . Left in 2004, it lends the title role to Kevin Kline and that of Linda Porter with Ashley Judd.
