Colchester is a British city located in the Comté of Essex (England). Its population is estimated at 160  000 inhabitants.

Colchester is the oldest Roman city of British Isles ( Camulodunum ). Excavations showed that the site was already occupied, three millenia ago, by tribes Celtes (Trinovantes). A Roman legion settles there in 43 and Colchester becomes the first Roman capital of British Isles before choosing London, more convenient of access.

Since the Years 1960, the city was the seat of the Université of Essex.
